When a natural disaster like Hurricane Harvey hits the USA, our country is known for coming together and helping those in need. While many people are helping on a nationwide level, there is a certain sense of responsibility for those in areas close the natural disaster. For those of us in the Harlingen area, we aren’t too far from the worst of the Harvey aftermath. That said, it’s important that everyone knows how to donate and help Hurricane Harvey victims and their families. Keep on reading to learn more.
In the initial stages of these donations, GlobalGiving will focusing primarily on short-term necessities such as food, water, and shelter. After these needs have been met, GlobalGiving will transfer the focus of its funds to addressing and beginning long-term recovery efforts.
In response to Hurricane Harvey, the mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner, began a specifically designated Harvey-related relief fund with the Greater Houston Community Foundation. Acting as the bridge between the more fortunate and the less fortunate, the Greater Houston Community Foundation connects donors to a network of nonprofit groups, helping everyone to come together during this time of need.
The United Way of Greater Houston has several funds for many different public service scenarios. Among them is a fund just for helping people through storm-related needs and recovery efforts. With the intensity and severity of Hurricane Harvey, the organization has said that they do not have enough funds for a situation this dire. Any donations to the United Way of Greater Houston will help the organization to serve the victims of Hurricane Harvey as best they can.
