What Is The Difference Between A Nissan 370Z and a Fairlady Z?

Whether you are new to the world of Nissan or have been missing your Datsun since 1983, you have probably seen or heard the phrase “Fairlady Z” at least a handful of times. Fairlady Z is a designation given to the evolution of Z cars, made first by Datsun, and then by Nissan, a history that stretches back to 1970, but there is a catch… What really is the difference between a Nissan 370Z and a Fairlady Z?

How Fast Is The Nissan 370Z?

Datsun

Stretching back to before the invention of the assembly line, the history of Datsun lives on in the engineering and design of modern Nissan vehicles. The most notable vehicle, of course, is the Fairlady Z. In 1970, the Datsun 240Z made its debut and the Fairlady Z was born. Datsun remained the face of the company until the Nissan Motor Company was established as a luxury brand for Datsun.

Nissan

After 1930, the Datsun brand simply could not keep up with Nissan and it slowly faded away until the 1980s when it was discarded altogether.

Fairlady Z vs Nissan Z

The major distinction between a Z and a Fairlady Z is where it exists. In Japan, they are branded and known as the Fairlady Z. In America, the Fairlady Z term was simply dropped. In most circumstances, the Fairlady Z cars feature higher performance capabilities, but that is mostly because of stricter regulations in the United States.
