Fall Safety Driving Tips

  • Be ready for rain – Along with the fall season always seems to come frequent rain showers. Be sure to check the forecast before you head out and allow your
  • self for extra time if it is supposed to rain. Take your time on the drive and stay safe.
  • Watch the sun – This time of year is when the sun is extremely bright and provides the worst sun glare for the first 15 to 45 minutes after sunrise and before sunset. Make sure you have a good pair of sunglasses in the car if you know you will be on the road at these times!
  • Keep an eye out for critters – As we just mentioned, it can be difficult to see around sunrise and sunset which makes it more difficult to see any animals that are on or near the road. The cold weather makes animals want to get out and move around so be sure to keep an eye out and be prepared to stop!
  • Avoid leaves – Leaves falling off of the trees is something that we come to expect with the fall season, but did you know that they can be extremely slippery when they get wet? If you know the ground is wet and there are leaves on the road, avoid braking until you get off of the leaves.
  • Know when it gets dark – As it starts to get dark earlier make sure that you are aware, especially if you are someone who does not like to drive in the dark.
